Privacy policy

At Est1897, we take the security of the information you give us very seriously and will use it solely for the purposes that you have agreed to. Our policy is detailed below and applies to all customers, both past and present. It should be read in conjunction with our loan terms and conditions, which can be found on this website, or alternatively with the loan agreement sent to you once your application has been accepted.

By submitting your details via our website and / or using our services you are accepting and expressly consenting to the use and disclosure of your information as outlined below. If you do not agree with any aspects of this policy you should not complete an application.

1. Security

We protect your information by using SSL (secure socket layer) Internet security protocols to collect and store your data.  This is the most advanced Internet security currently commercially available for data collection. Your information is held on secure servers, protected from external attack by firewalls and other security technologies. Access is strictly controlled via secure web pages, whilst employee access is also controlled on a “need to know” basis.

This site is VeriSign secure.  VeriSign is the leading Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificate Authority enabling secure e-commerce, communications and interactions for Web sites, intranets and extranets.

2. Your information

This includes all the information, personal and financial that you provide us with your application as well as any information we may obtain from a third party, such as a credit reference agency. It also includes what we may learn from the way you use and manage your account(s).

We may also collect information about your computer including, where available, your IP address, as well as information about your general Internet usage by using a cookie file which is stored on the hard drive of your computer. Cookies enable us to improve our service to you, estimate our audience size and usage patterns, store information about your preferences and recognise you when you return to our site.
You can set your web browser to refuse cookies, but if you do this you may not be able to enjoy full use of the site and you may not be able to take advantage of certain promotions we may run from time to time

3. Sharing your information

We do share your information with trusted third parties involved in the process of providing you with the services you request. These may include credit reference bureaus, customer service providers and collection agencies. All service providers are carefully selected and bound by contract to maintain the security of your information.

If you were introduced to us by a third party, we will give them your contact details and sufficient information about you for their accounting and administration purposes.

If you give us false or inaccurate information and we have reasonable grounds to suspect fraud or we identify fraud we will pass this information to fraud prevention agencies and it may also be passed onto other organisations involved in crime and fraud prevention. We and other organisations may also access and use such information to prevent fraud and money laundering, for example, when (i) checking details on applications for credit and credit related or other facilities; (ii) managing credit and credit related accounts or facilities; (iii) recovering debt; and (iv) checking details of job applicants and employees. We will not use your data for marketing purposes, nor will we pass your data to any third parties for marketing purposes without your express permission, whether or not we enter into an agreement with you. By not unticking the ‘I wish to receive offers from H&T’ box on the registration form you will be providing your express permission.

4. Using your information

We will use your information to manage your account(s), give you statements and provide our services, for research, assessment and analysis (including credit and/or behaviour scoring, market and product analysis) and to develop and improve our services to you and other customers and protect our interests.

Under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998 you have a right to obtain a copy of the information we keep about you. To obtain this, contact us at customerservice@handtonline.com. A fee will be charged for this service, but we will not charge you until we have told you how much it will be and you have confirmed you wish to proceed.
